WEST COAST SWING DANCE LESSONS HOUSTON

West Coast Swing was born in California during the 1940s. Called Western Swing, this new dance was popularized in the 1950s by Skippy Blair. In 1959, the dance was renamed West Coast Swing. While WCS is the official California state dance, it is danced widely throughout the United States and Canada.

West Coast Swing is danced in a "slot" with the follower travelling primarily in a straight line back and forth with the leader mostly staying in the center.

West Coast Swing has no bounce as in East Coast Swing, and allows room for syncopated footwork and improvisation. West Coast Swing can be danced to a wide range of music including rhythm and blues, country western, funk, disco, rock, pop, and hip hop.
